The Chief Executive Officer of Ernest Chemists Ltd (ECL), Adjoa Akyema Sampong, led a delegation from the company to pay a courtesy call on the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akando in his office on Wednesday, April 23, 2026.
The meeting was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the company and the sector Ministry.

The ECL team included a Director of the Company, Mr, Ebenezer Sasu Bediako and the Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager Mr. Clement Atagra.
The meeting was also attended by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Desmond Boateng.
Among the key issues discussed were an update on the new manufacturing plant being developed by ECL, areas of collaboration for mutual benefit and government’s free primary health care and how the company can support in realizing that objective.
Ms. Sampong explained that prior to her nomination to the position of CEO, she had for many years played various roles including leading the retail and wholesale business of the company.
She further assured the Minister of her resolve to work collaboratively with the ministry and other stakeholders to continue to position the company as a leader in the pharmaceutical sector in Ghana and beyond in line with its brand promise of providing quality and affordable medicines.
Mr. Sasu Bediako, while updating the minister on the new factory indicated that the facility was nearing completion and will be commissioned soon.
He used the occasion to appeal to the Minister to use his good offices to facilitate the construction of an access road on a short stretch from the main road to the factory.
The Minister sought and was provided answers on the product lines of the new factory, countries ECL currently operate in and plans to expand to other markets.
He indicated that given the size of the company, ECL will be required to play a key role in the government’s quest to make Ghana the pharmaceutical hub in Africa.
Hon. Akandoh assured of government’s support in the company’s expansion drive and other areas that may require government support.
He promised to talk to the Minister of Road on the request for a road to the factory.
